IS GOPAL SRI RAM FIT TO PROSECUTE? Malaysia’s legal system has come under the microscope in recent weeks – from the controversial Riza Aziz settlement last month to the damning allegations by former Attorney General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali last week. Central to both episodes is Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram. Given the massive public interest in both these episodes, is the former Federal Court judge turned private practitioner fit to represent the symbol of Malaysia’s integrity? And has the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ image been tainted? Shouldn’t there be an investigation that will allow Sri Ram to clear his name? Senior lawyer Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos said Sri Ram should be suspended until a thorough investigation into Apandi’s claims is completed. “It is a bit premature to decide at this moment if Sri Ram is fit or not,” said Jahaberdeen. “That is why it is very important that the powers that be and the relevant stakeholders get to the bottom of th...

FAREWELL MESSAGE TO DR MAHATHIR MOHAMAD

FAREWELL MESSAGE TO DR MAHATHIR MOHAMAD Goodbye. Farewell.  I remembered the feeling I had the morning after we took government away from BN. Elated and hopeful that change will begin to come our way. In all that elation and hope, I wondered how Najib Razak would have felt in defeat. This morning I know Mahathir will know how Najib felt that same morning too. Mahathir would know how Najib felt this morning AFTER that Kongres Maruah Melayu. Mahathir would know that for him, that Congress marked the beginning of the end for him. Mahathir would know that he no longer has the votes of the NON-Malays. Mahathir would know that DAP (if Lim Kit Siang has any sense of propriety and self-respect) would now look upon him as a Pariah. He would know that Anwar will soon declare open warfare in his quest to be King. And Mahathir would know that any self-respecting Malay with a shred of decency within themself, would now turn their backs on him and...

Abdul Azeez To Be Charged with 37 more charges ? Former Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim was charged with 12 counts of graft amounting to RM5.2mil and money laundering totaling RM139.4mil over the procurement of government contracts in January of this year – 5 months later and 51 charges less than what he was supposed to. The Malaysian public was already perplexed that Abdul Azeez, known as the money bag man of Najib Razak, the former Malaysian Prime Minister had been charged very late in the day and few charges. Investigations into Azeez had largely been completed by October last year and about 62 offences were identified against him.   He was supposed to be charged in early November but got away with the help of a very powerfully connected Mr X.   In fact, it is known in the circles that it was because of this Mr X that Azeez escaped being charged with a greater number of charges. However, due to Azeez’s over confidence and his ...

The Grand Old Master - Mahathir of Malaysia

Image
The Grand Old Master - Mahathir of Malaysia Malaysia is living in its own world away from global trends and developments. In fact Malaysia is further sliding down the political, economic and social ladder right into the abyss of regression. May 9 saw a change of government from the incumbent Barisan National to the loosely   formed Pakatan Harapan made up of DAP, PKR, Amanah and Bersatu.   For the first time in Malaysian political history, the Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad Hamid from the weakest party, Bersatu which only has 13 members in Parliament. Anwar Ibrahim’s   PKR and Lim Kit Siang’s DAP have over 40 seats each. It is a known secret that Mahathir has been in the forefront of imbibing in the minds of the Malay that DAP Isa Chinese based party which is the enemy of the Malays and Muslims.   Two years ago, he made up with DAP and joined the Pakatan Harapan. Mahathir too was responsible for destroying Anwar’s political career and throwing...

Malaysia’s new Government with old Fundamental problems

Malaysia’s new Government with old Fundamental problems 1. The helm of the new government is none other than an UMNO leader, Mahathir Muhammad, until two years ago.   In fact, the UMNO psyche today is none other than that shaped by him. 2. When the youngsters and the non Malays voted for so called change of government all they cared about was to get rid of Najib. They however harboured illusionary hopes for major changes in the political mindset. 3. They are already finding out that “UMNO’s” ways are now present in the Pakatan Harapan Government, especially in Mahathir’s small party, PPBM and to a lesser extent Anwar’s PKR. 4. DAP, for now is enjoying federal government status and as an influential party. They will soon find out that they may enjoy lesser influence as time passes by in this Malay majority country. 5. The decades animosity between Mahathir and Anwar has not abated but for political convenience of marriage . The knives between their camps are vi...
