Malaysia’s new Government with old Fundamental problems
Malaysia’s new Government with old Fundamental problems
1. The helm of the new government is none other than an UMNO
leader, Mahathir Muhammad, until two years ago.
In fact, the UMNO psyche today is none other than that shaped by him.
2. When the youngsters and the non Malays voted for so
called change of government all they cared about was to get rid of Najib. They
however harboured illusionary hopes for major changes in the political mindset.
3. They are already finding out that “UMNO’s” ways are now
present in the Pakatan Harapan Government, especially in Mahathir’s small
party, PPBM and to a lesser extent Anwar’s PKR.
4. DAP, for now is enjoying federal government status and as
an influential party. They will soon find out that they may enjoy lesser
influence as time passes by in this Malay majority country.
5. The decades animosity between Mahathir and Anwar has not
abated but for political convenience of marriage . The knives between their
camps are visibly out and it’s only a matter of time before it bursts into a
full war.
6. Mahathir for now is seen as a vengeful leader who wants
to kill off all those in UMNO who had fought against him. In fact, it is clear that either he controls
UMNO or it will be deregistered sooner or later.
7. As to rule of law, all the Pakatan Harapan leaders and
supporters who were charged, their charges were dropped. This includes Shafee
Apdql of Sabah. On the other , every influential supporter of UMNO or their
leaders are being charged .
8. Mahathir is distracting the public and buying time for
his current new and inexperienced Ministers to learn the job by pandering to
populist demand for blood of the previous regime’s leaders.
9. So called overseas Malaysians who had hoped to return to
the new Malaysia of opportunities are experiencing disappointments.
10. The Malaysian economy is sliding and the institutions
are being destabilised by new politicking by the new regime.
Only time will tell when national disappointment with the
new regime will openly surface .
