Is Malaysia's MACC Chief caught in a political power play
?
Dzulkiflee Ahmad, the Malaysian Anti
Corruption chief had a full 100 days of announcements, public engagements
including sermons in mosques and poetry recitals to students. He raveled in
maximum publicity until he literally got caught with his pants down in a public allegation against him involving a
married woman.
Now he has gone silent like a mouse in
the mosque. No more public appearances, no more poetry and surely no more
sermons in the mosque. He must be thinking: how is it that his
new found powerful position with outriders and bodyguards have now kept him
imprisoned so fast?
Dzulkiflee may be an experienced
government servant but he has zero experience in intrigues and political power
plays. Many government officials easily lose themselves in the power that the
position affords them - to their own detriment. Dzulkiflee is one such case. It is rumored that his cardinal sin is
that he had chosen to side with some politicians while ignoring the other
powerful ones. You are a government official, you are not allowed to take
sides. If you do, then you pay the price.
The price appears to be the exposure of
the rumoured scandal with a married woman. In Islamic Malaysia, this alone, if
true, is a religious shariah offence. It is not just a private matter as Tunku
Aziz likes Malaysians to think. Tunku Aziz was trying to defend Dzulkiflee.
Tunku Aziz is head of the advisory committee in MACC.
Whether the scandal rumour about
Dzulkiflee is true or not, public confidence in MACC and in his credibility can
only be achieved after an investigation. In the meantime, he will have to
relinquish his post.
We have more to reveal about the
powerful infighting that Dzulkiflee has got himself involved in but we will
save it for another day.
